I never had that bad a problem PvP servers, even on ones the Alliance waaay outnumbered the Horde. I've only been seriously camped like four times in three years of playing.

Worthless achievement and gimmicky companion pet for every character that logs in on the 22nd in "celebration" of the game's fifth birthday.

What's the pet this time? I also know last time around you got a pet if you logged in within a week of it or something.

I think it was a really good idea that they changed vanity pets from items to spells at some point after I quit (same for mounts).
They were always the epitome of wastes of space up to that point.
And being a Dr00d on a PVP server, I'd be catform -> stealthed at the first sign of trouble, and I didn't want a critter with me to give me away.

So our server had massive lag around midnight last night, I'm guessing it had something to do with the mass amount of people getting the 5th anniversary achievement. What sucked is we were trying to do Thorim in Ulduar 25.

Finally hit level 70. As much as I want to venture into Northrend, I've still got Netherstorm and Shadowmoon Valley to at least dip my toe into, and the areas themselves look so interesting that I'm willing to do any and all silly fetch quests within. That, and Blizzard's online upgrade service is twice the price of buying it from Amazon.
Doing my first ever raid tomorrow night. The Black Temple. Any tips for a raid newbie?

Netherstorm is a really interesting looking zone so I didn't much mind questing there.
Shadowmoon valley looked like someone took a glowing green shit and shaped it into a zone :P. I found it to be drab and boring.
If you're raiding with mostly 80's, just sit back and enjoy the ride I guess. The hugely magnified gear difference makes the place easy to steamroll, even for trade chat pugs.
When you DO end up starting in Northrend, I highly recommend starting in Howling Fjord over Borean Tundra. Arguably, Borean has better quests in terms of placed close together with a lot of just kill X of Y types, but Howling Fjord has a lot of the FUN quests for beginners.
You ride around in vehicles, get to run around as a disguised wolf, things like that.

I'd vote Borean over Howling. But they're pretty comparable.
As for Black Temple, I raided it with 80s a while back and it was still kind of a pain in the ass. As in long. I dont remember any of the fights being particularly awful other than the multiface thing. That's as far as I got before I had to go.

To be honest, my definition of an "interesting zone" is anywhere where there isn't trees, trees, trees and the same four of five Night Elf-style buildings. I got pretty sick of that upon reaching Ashenvale for the first time.
Looking at the levels of the people in my guild doing the raid tomorrow, it seems to be quite a range of people between 70 and 80. My main concern is that my DPS is going to be rather sucky for a level 70 hunter, regardless of whether or not there's an entourage of level 80 players tearing things up.
I don't think my DPS nor my stats are crap, but I'm currently trawling through wowwiki and other sites trying to find an "average" build/stats for a hunter at my level, and, ideally, what kind of equipment they're sporting. If anyone knows of such a site, do share.

Hunter DPS has become somewhat of a joke, at least in terms of WotLK. The game has largely become an "AoE everything and heal through the pain!" gauntlet, so raid-style Hunter DPS outside of bosses is mostly misleading. Also, Hunter DPS has really been relegated to "Go Survival or go home!". If you're playing how you like and not how raiding makes you play, I'd say just go to Black Temple and enjoy the ride. You'll no doubt get some gear drops along the way. None of which will really help you in the long run since WotLK *greens* are pretty good.
That said, I used this site when I started to get serious about raiding. I usually stuck to the "raider on a budget" guidelines because my cashflow is usually hurting, but if you've got the funds, go all out.

It's mostly geared toward those on the path toward level 80. But Im sure you could glean some info from it.

So, I've been rummaging through the SW: The Old Republic forums for the past couple of months and have been genuinely shocked by the WoW-hate I've seen. I mean... wow. Seriously.
It makes me hesitant to play the game(TOR, that is).

WoW is popular, so it automatically becomes the scorn of those who hate things simply because they're popular.
Though I will say, while nothing can "kill" WoW like so many people want to happen, The Old Republic will be the first real competition it has.
