Ughhh. Why does SE pull this crap? FFIV is my favourite game in the series, and a sequel would have been cool. Sadly, I doubt I'll ever play this. Lame.

Apparently, from that thread, the phone that it's on can display some very good graphics. Maybe somewhere down the line we'll get a DS port or something...and by that I mean "never, but I'm desperate."

Fucking cell phone games. Parasite Eve 3 and now an FFIV sequel. C'mon SE, realize that the rest of the world has not yet caught up to your super cell phones. Hopefully they'll port this to another system, but I won't hold my breath.

It'll probably suck, so I'm glad I won't get to play it.

This is perhaps the biggest discrepancy between the Japanese market and the U.S. market. Cell phones are extremely popular in Japan - popular enough that they're being made to be able to do things like pick up broadcast TV and have full internet surfing capability. I'd actually read that the PC market was declining a bit in Japan because cell phones were fulfilling peoples' needs. I can't speak for other markets, but that is completely NOT the way it is in the North American market.

Even if TV and full-featured internet were to become a reality on American cell phones, I don't think they'd be used all that much. In a place where people obsess over huge TVs and HD/Blu-ray, I can't ever see people saying "Oh, I'd rather watch this show on my cell phone!" My viewpoint is very pro-North America in this - I just do not get why someone would want to use their cell phone to do things it is so obviously inferior at doing. Being able to use the internet anywhere I go is not such a need that I'm willing to use it on a GBA-sized screen. Maybe when I'm out and about, I'll actually, y'know, do stuff, and save the internet-surfing for when I'm at home. Expanded mobile functionality is massively overrated. Who gives a shit how many things a mobile phone can do when I have things that do every one of those things better? Surf the internet? My PC does it far better than any cell phone. Watch a movie? Uh...got one'a them tee-veers fer that. Listen to music? Portable music player, with far more storage space. And of course, play a game? I've got consoles that are actually made for playing games, as well as portable systems that actually have quality software.

I can see why the argument, "It doesn't do any of these better than the actual thing, but the true power is having all that capability in one device" exists; however, that doesn't make any of those functions less inferior, and doesn't create any appeal to people who are more than happy to engage in each task with machines far better suited to them.

All that preface was necessary to discuss why I hate games on cell phones. The gaming market is global now. When Japanese companies make games nowdays, they're mindful of an international audience. After all, good games have a high chance of getting localized in another country, and that's more money for them. So one might think that a game in an internationally-famous franchise would be made to best reach that audience, right? Wrong, when the subject in question is cell-phone games. Apparently, it's such a sure thing in Japan that it doesn't matter that the rest of the world can't or won't play it. Honestly, there's no game they're making on cell phones that wouldn't be better done on the DS - which although not as pervasive as mobile phones, still has a massive install base in Japan (as well as pretty much everywhere else). A sequel to FFIV would be a no-brainer - put it on the DS, or at least on a GBA cart so it can be played on DS (depending on the size of the game and whether it's 2D or 3D).

Who would actually prefer a game on a cellphone to a game on...any other handheld system? A cell phone simply isn't made for gaming - its interface is actually unfriendly to playing almost any kind of game where timing is a factor in the input. I suppose you could play menu-based games without too much hassle, but you'd still navigate the menus better on a DS or PSP. Mobile phones' gaming-unfriendly control capabilities guarantee only the most simplistic gaming experiences, play-wise (I suppose they could still have an engaging story, though I've yet to hear of one). This is one of those situations where I just have to throw my hands up in the air and say "Dammit Japan, you and your cellphone games bullshit." If they're gonna make cellphone-exclusive games, they could at least have the decency to make them new franchises and not sequels to popular titles like FFIV or FFVII.

They'll never have new IP's on cells. Money talks, which is ultimately why the Final Fantasy spinoff series' exploded like an over-engorged cow.

Also, I think it's the mentality of having America with bigger and better things, whereas Asians love the smaller and more gadgety things. Not to racially profile or anything, but that's how I see it.

Did I mention that the people in charge of Square Enix are a bunch of fuckers?

So who out there is buying all these cellphone games to make companies like Square think we want them?

I sometimes think how much more could Square piss us off after this. Then it came to my mind:

Finally, one day Square will come together and tell us that they plan on making the THIRD Chrono game, but....it will be for cellphones.

A sequel?
A fucking sequel?
/spit spit spit on Square
Fuck you Square.

God.
A fucking sequel to FF4. Did they not learn from FFX-2 how bad an idea that is?
FF4 is my favorite Final Fantasy, and they have to go and rape it for MORE fucking money by making a god damned sequel.
Contempt for Square+a billion
