Cell Phones
So I finally dropped my iPhone into some water last night and it's gone to the Great Apple Store in the sky.
That said, now I'm in the market for a good phone that's hopefully a good deal cheaper than the iPhone. I'm not opposed to getting another iPhone, but I have other shit I'd rather spend my money on for the next few months.
I'm on AT&T and would need something they offer. Any suggestions? I text a lot and take quite a few photos. Other than that, I don't need super fancy features.

I'd recommend either the Samsung Tocco Ultra (as it can play DivX) or the Sony Satio, if you can get them.

I don't know what you want on your phone, but I walked in there earlier this year and got the Samsung Magnet, their cheapest phone. It was $50, period. No mail in rebates or anything, just 50 bucks. It has a full keyboard and the familiar Samsung display. The keyboard seems small but I usually don't have a problem with it. It takes pictures, but no action shots turn out. All I really do is talk and text and it works great for that.
It's also not even a 3G phone so if you wanted the 'net and whatever skip it.

I could probably live without the 'net. That's actually a really nice phone, Amer. I'll check it out.

If the Motorola Droid comes any time soon. Amazingly awesome phone, should run about $200. There are already FTC docs on it for GSM, so it should hit reasonably soon. The last phone of mine that I loved was a Motorola RIZR Z3, it died and I went back to one of my original RAZR's. Interestingly I'm satisfied with it, you can pick one up unlocked on NewEgg for cheap. Which also gives you the option to threaten to leave for another GSM carrier tomorrow if customer service gets bad.

I've been reading a lot on the Droid lately, but it's unfortunately a Verizon-only phone, right? I've still got another year with AT&T.

Really? My girlfriend put her iPod Nano through the wash twice and it still worked. I guess phones are too complex or something.
I'm also in the market for a new phone soon, but I think we're a year or two behind you guys...who are in turn probably 5 years behind Japan.

The Driod has FCC clearance for GSM carriers as of recently, and the rumour mill says it will be out soon enough for AT&T, T-Mobile, Rogers /Whatever.
