Ouch

My girlfriends macbook fell off of her bed and hit the floor.
There's a small dent and the machine makes the loading sound several more times than usual.

She says otherwise it runs fine.
This is her beautiful school laptop so I'm just trying to find out if she needs a new one or if this is treatable.

Thanks for any help

Does it work?

Then okay. If anything, sounds like the HDD took a shock, probably dropped the life span of it a tad.

Macbook or Macbook Pro?

Because Pros are built like tanks and you shouldn't have to worry that much. Regular Macbook? Your disk might be fucked. Does she run Time Machine?

Take it to a Genius Bar and get it checked, just in case. It should still be covered by warranty.

An Apple warranty that covers drops and external damage made to the laptop?

Not unless we're in Bizarro World.

You'd be surprised. If you get lucky and find a non-douchebag Genius, they're MORE than happy to cover anything that even remotely amounts to human error.

EDIT: Genome, if there's a dent it's probably a MacBook Pro. Plastic doesn't dent. And it's probably one of the pre-unibody Pros at that.

I have yet to meet an Apple service rep that would take care of non-warranty issues as a warranty errand. No Apple Care = No yuo!

It's a pro, and I know she has a warranty. The warranty does not cover HER breaking it though.

Tell them you were the one who broke it?

Saying that you broke a Macbook Pro to a Genius would probably render you the reply: "You sir, are worse than Hitler!"

I had both my case replaced and battery replaced out of warranty, though both were known issues.

Battery had just altogether stopped holding a charge and the plastic was cracking near where the magnets hit.

Hey, Luthyr. White Plastic MacBook? I had my case crack near the magnets on four separate occasions. On the fourth time I called corporate and they replaced it with a maxed-out unibody aluminum one.

It's worth a shot!

Attempt to get a warranty repair by asking damn nicely. Back it up regularly and don't trust it, but it will probably survive for at least a while.
