Does DA:O have a disc drive dependency in order to play it on the PC? My roommate and I are hoping to put our meager funds and trade-ins together to pick it up.

I don't have the PC version, so this might be totally wrong, but I believe the PC version dismissed SecuRom and all the other shit people hate for the traditional CD Check. I'm not sure for digital distribution.
Also, I've not had any issue with the view on 360. It's just like KOTOR or Jade Empire or Mass Effect. Maybe if you really like to micromanage or are playing the higher difficulty settings you'd want to be zoomed out. Really my only qualm is that it's a little difficult sometimes to target the enemy you want in battle. I'm playing a rogue and sometimes it blows trying to hit people's backs.

Meh a CD check is still just as annoying when two poor college students have to put their resources together to buy a game. Oh well I am sure there will be other malign ways of bypassing it in the near future if not already.

Picked it up and my roommate and I just watched the opening video. Has a very nice start! We are psyched up to play all night tonight.

I picked this game up last Thursday, about 10 minutes til closing time for the shops (In AUS, late night trading is only on Thursday nights until 9pm), and when I got home played through the Human Noble and City Elf origins.
This may be the Bioware fanwhore in me (Yes, I'm a fan of Bioware games), but I immediately fell in love with the game, just as I have for their previous games (KotOR, KotORII TSL, Jade Empire and Mass Effect). True the graphics are dated, but the game was in production for 5 years, so that's understandable. Music was done by Inon Zur, and seems to suit the game well... imo that is.
Combat... I think Bioware follows the old adage of 'If it aint broken, why fix it?' well, as the combat controls are reminiscent of earlier games in their stable.
The story, while being a little washed up from being used numerous times before in other media, is still good enough to keep me hooked. But then, considering how obsessive I tend to get at times... that may or may not be a good thing.
The characters, like Shale, remind me of others from earlier games which isn't a bad thing imo honestly. Shale is the fantasy version of HK-47 lol.
Now, when I first heard about this game, I admit I wasn't that interested... however it was when I saw this that my drooling problem began... and still hasn't stopped lol.
As with earlier Bioware games, I started playing the game thinking that it'll be a good one... but once I've started playing I can't stop.
This whole post will undoubtedly come across as being purely fanboy and all that crap... I honestly don't care as I do enjoy this game a lot, like with KotOR and the others.

I like that the side conversations the characters have happen while in game and do not interrupt your traveling, and some are just golden, like Morrigan asking Alistair about his templer training and what would have happened if he didn't become a Grey Warden.
His response was hilarious.

I'm about 14-15 hours into the game now, absolutely loving it and yet I keep thinking I want to restart. I don't know what it is, since there's no issues playing the Dwarven Noble Warrior, but...ugh. I rarely play a mage in most RPGs (too squishy), but after playing with Morrigan for a bit I'm thinking it might be worth the change of pace. But...14-15 hours in...bah!

Well, poop. I made a certain decision in a certain quest that a certain rock formation like party member had some fundamental disagreements with and...well...sadness.

got this game the other day, was doing another quest and somehow wandered up to the mage tower lol. I'm not very good at these non-linear RPG games, my team dies a lot, but I'm enjoying it none the less.

Er, I totally missed the boat on this game, I thought it was a MMO.
Would I like it if I loved Mass Effect, but hated Oblivion?
EDIT: I suppose to clarify, I like "guided" non-linear games like Fable. I like going off the beaten track in a game and doing things, but I don't like insanely non-linear games like Oblivion.

From what I've seen thus far...
If you like Bioware you'll like this game. It's not a sandbox as you travel from location to location via the world map the same as Baldur's Gate and the side quests and such keep you going around enough. You can waste hours going after those without touching much the main storyline.

It's pretty linear as far as WRPGs go, sounds like it'd be right up your alley judging by what you just said.

If a game is made by Bioware you can be pretty damn sure it's going to be very similar to every other game made by Bioware, because they've got one formula they like, and man do they stick to it.
Gotta say, though, I was really disappointed when I realized that yet again the majority of the game was going to be 'go to these four locations in any order and solve the local dispute'. That is getting old.

Ok, that is getting pretty tiresome \=/
But hopefully the game still rocks =D
I need to pick it up soon
